Heart

GEN 6:5  The LORD saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all

the time.

8:21  The LORD smelled the pleasing aroma and said in his heart: "Never

again will I curse the ground because of man, even though every inclination

of his heart is evil from childhood. And never again will I destroy all

living creatures, as I have done.

EXO 4:21  The LORD said to Moses, "When you return to Egypt, see that you

perform before Pharaoh all the wonders I have given you the power to do.

But I will harden his heart so that he will not let the people go.

7:3  But I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and though I multiply my miraculous

signs and wonders in Egypt,

13  Yet Pharaoh's heart became hard and he would not listen to them, just

as the LORD had said.

22  But the Egyptian magicians did the same things by their secret arts,

and Pharaoh's heart became hard; he would not listen to Moses and Aaron,

just as the LORD had said.

8:15  But when Pharaoh saw that there was relief, he hardened his heart and

would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the LORD had said.

32  But this time also Pharaoh hardened his heart and would not let the

people go.

9:12  But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart and he would not listen to

Moses and Aaron, just as the LORD had said to Moses.

34  When Pharaoh saw that the rain and hail and thunder had stopped, he

sinned again: He and his officials hardened their hearts.

35  So Pharaoh's heart was hard and he would not let the Israelites go,

just as the LORD had said through Moses.

10:1  Then the LORD said to Moses, "Go to Pharaoh, for I have hardened his

heart and the hearts of his officials so that I may perform these

miraculous signs of mine among them

20  But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he would not let the

Israelites go.

27  But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he was not willing to let

them go.

11:9  The LORD had said to Moses, "Pharaoh will refuse to listen to you--so

that my wonders may be multiplied in Egypt."

10  Moses and Aaron performed all these wonders before Pharaoh, but the

LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he would not let the Israelites go out

of his country.

14:4  And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and he will pursue them. But I

will gain glory for myself through Pharaoh and all his army, and the

Egyptians will know that I am the LORD." So the Israelites did this.

8  The LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, so that he pursued

the Israelites, who were marching out boldly.

17  I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go in after

them. And I will gain glory through Pharaoh and all his army, through his

chariots and his horsemen.

DEU 2:30  But Sihon king of Heshbon refused to let us pass through. For the

LORD your God had made his spirit stubborn and his heart obstinate in order

to give him into your hands, as he has now done.

5:29  Oh, that their hearts would be inclined to fear me and keep all my

commands always, so that it might go well with them and their children

forever!

6:5  Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and

with all your strength.

6  These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts.

10:12  And now, O Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you but to

fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the

LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul,

11:13  So if you faithfully obey the commands I am giving you today--to

love the LORD your God and to serve him with all your heart and with all

your soul--

26:16  The LORD your God commands you this day to follow these decrees and

laws; carefully observe them with all your heart and with all your soul.

29:18  Make sure there is no man or woman, clan or tribe among you today

whose heart turns away from the LORD our God to go and worship the gods of

those nations; make sure there is no root among you that produces such

bitter poison.

30:2  and when you and your children return to the LORD your God and obey

him with all your heart and with all your soul according to everything I

command you today,

6  The LORD your God will circumcise your hearts and the hearts of your

descendants, so that you may love him with all your heart and with all your

soul, and live.

31:21  And when many disasters and difficulties come upon them, this song

will testify against them, because it will not be forgotten by their

descendants. I know what they are disposed to do, even before I bring them

into the land I promised them on oath."

JOS 11:20  For it was the LORD himself who hardened their hearts to wage

war against Israel, so that he might destroy them totally, exterminating

them without mercy, as the LORD had commanded Moses.

1SA 1:13  Hannah was praying in her heart, and her lips were moving but her

voice was not heard. Eli thought she was drunk

2:1  Then Hannah prayed and said: "My heart rejoices in the LORD; in the

LORD my horn is lifted high. My mouth boasts over my enemies, for I delight

in your deliverance.

6:6  Why do you harden your hearts as the Egyptians and Pharaoh did? When

he treated them harshly, did they not send the Israelites out so they could

go on their way?

10:9  As Saul turned to leave Samuel, God changed Saul's heart, and all

these signs were fulfilled that day.

26  Saul also went to his home in Gibeah, accompanied by valiant men whose

hearts God had touched.

16:7  But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not consider his appearance or his

height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things man

looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the

heart."

17:28  When Eliab, David's oldest brother, heard him speaking with the men,

he burned with anger at him and asked, "Why have you come down here? And

with whom did you leave those few sheep in the desert? I know how conceited

you are and how wicked your heart is; you came down only to watch the

battle."

24:5  Afterward, David was conscience-stricken for having cut off a corner

of his robe.

2SA 7:20  "What more can David say to you? For you know your servant, O

Sovereign LORD.

1KI 2:4  and that the LORD may keep his promise to me: 'If your descendants

watch how they live, and if they walk faithfully before me with all their

heart and soul, you will never fail to have a man on the throne of Israel.'

3:9  So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to

distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great

people of yours?"

11  So God said to him, "Since you have asked for this and not for long

life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies

but for discernment in administering justice,

12  I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning

heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there

ever be.

4:29  God gave Solomon wisdom and very great insight, and a breadth of

understanding as measureless as the sand on the seashore.

8:39  then hear from heaven, your dwelling place. Forgive and act; deal

with each man according to all he does, since you know his heart (for you

alone know the hearts of all men),

61  But your hearts must be fully committed to the LORD our God, to live by

his decrees and obey his commands, as at this time."

2KI 14:10  You have indeed defeated Edom and now you are arrogant. Glory in

your victory, but stay at home! Why ask for trouble and cause your own

downfall and that of Judah also?"

22:19  Because your heart was responsive and you humbled yourself before

the LORD when you heard what I have spoken against this place and its

people, that they would become accursed and laid waste, and because you

tore your robes and wept in my presence, I have heard you, declares the

LORD.

1CH 12:33  men of Zebulun, experienced soldiers prepared for battle with

every type of weapon, to help David with undivided loyalty--50,000;

28:9  "And you, my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and

serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the LORD

searches every heart and understands every motive behind the thoughts. If

you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will

reject you forever.

29:17  I know, my God, that you test the heart and are pleased with

integrity. All these things have I given willingly and with honest intent.

And now I have seen with joy how willingly your people who are here have

given to you.

18  O LORD, God of our fathers Abraham, Isaac and Israel, keep this desire

in the hearts of your people forever, and keep their hearts loyal to you.

2CH 12:14  He did evil because he had not set his heart on seeking the

LORD.

17:16  next, Amasiah son of Zicri, who volunteered himself for the service

of the LORD, with 200,000.

19:3  There is, however, some good in you, for you have rid the land of the

Asherah poles and have set your heart on seeking God."

25:19  You say to yourself that you have defeated Edom, and now you are

arrogant and proud. But stay at home! Why ask for trouble and cause your

own downfall and that of Judah also?"

26:16  But after Uzziah became powerful, his pride led to his downfall. He

was unfaithful to the LORD his God, and entered the temple of the LORD to

burn incense on the altar of incense.

30:19  who sets his heart on seeking God--the LORD, the God of his fathers-

-even if he is not clean according to the rules of the sanctuary."

EZR 6:22  For seven days they celebrated with joy the Feast of Unleavened

Bread, because the LORD had filled them with joy by changing the attitude

of the king of Assyria, so that he assisted them in the work on the house

of God, the God of Israel.

7:10  For Ezra had devoted himself to the study and observance of the Law

of the LORD, and to teaching its decrees and laws in Israel.

27  Praise be to the LORD, the God of our fathers, who has put it into the

king's heart to bring honor to the house of the LORD in Jerusalem in this

way

NEH 9:8  You found his heart faithful to you, and you made a covenant with

him to give to his descendants the land of the Canaanites, Hittites,

Amorites, Perizzites, Jebusites and Girgashites. You have kept your promise

because you are righteous.

JOB 9:4  His wisdom is profound, his power is vast. Who has resisted him

and come out unscathed?

11:11  Surely he recognizes deceitful men; and when he sees evil, does he

not take note?

16:19  Even now my witness is in heaven; my advocate is on high.

23:16  God has made my heart faint; the Almighty has terrified me.

31:4  Does he not see my ways and count my every step?

PSA 1:6  For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of

the wicked will perish.

4:4  In your anger do not sin; when you are on your beds, search your

hearts and be silent. Selah

7  You have filled my heart with greater joy than when their grain and new

wine abound.

7:9  O righteous God, who searches minds and hearts, bring to an end the

violence of the wicked and make the righteous secure.

9:1  I will praise you, O LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your

wonders.

10:17  You hear, O LORD, the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them,

and you listen to their cry,

12:2  Everyone lies to his neighbor; their flattering lips speak with

deception.

22:14  I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My

heart has turned to wax; it has melted away within me.

26  The poor will eat and be satisfied; they who seek the LORD will praise

him--may your hearts live forever!

24:4  He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his

soul to an idol or swear by what is false.

26:2  Test me, O LORD, and try me, examine my heart and my mind;

27:3  Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break

out against me, even then will I be confident.

8  My heart says of you, "Seek his face!" Your face, LORD, I will seek.

14  Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.

28:3  Do not drag me away with the wicked, with those who do evil, who

speak cordially with their neighbors but harbor malice in their hearts.

34:18  The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are

crushed in spirit.

44:21  would not God have discovered it, since he knows the secrets of the

heart?

51:10  Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit

within me.

17  The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart,

O God, you will not despise.

57:7  My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and

make music.

66:18  If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have

listened;

73:1  Surely God is good to Israel, to those who are pure in heart.

76:5  Valiant men lie plundered, they sleep their last sleep; not one of

the warriors can lift his hands.

77:6  I remembered my songs in the night. My heart mused and my spirit

inquired:

84:2  My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and

my flesh cry out for the living God.

94:11  The LORD knows the thoughts of man; he knows that they are futile.

95:10  For forty years I was angry with that generation; I said, "They are

a people whose hearts go astray, and they have not known my ways."

97:11  Light is shed upon the righteous and joy on the upright in heart.

101:2  I will be careful to lead a blameless life--when will you come to

me? I will walk in my house with blameless heart.

4  Men of perverse heart shall be far from me; I will have nothing to do

with evil.

5  Whoever slanders his neighbor in secret, him will I put to silence;

whoever has haughty eyes and a proud heart, him will I not endure.

112:7  He will have no fear of bad news; his heart is steadfast, trusting

in the LORD.

8  His heart is secure, he will have no fear; in the end he will look in

triumph on his foes.

119:1  Blessed are they whose ways are blameless, who walk according to the

law of the LORD.

10  I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands.

12  Praise be to you, O LORD; teach me your decrees.

69  Though the arrogant have smeared me with lies, I keep your precepts

with all my heart.

145  I call with all my heart; answer me, O LORD, and I will obey your

decrees.

161  Rulers persecute me without cause, but my heart trembles at your word.

125:4  Do good, O LORD, to those who are good, to those who are upright in

heart.

139:1  O LORD, you have searched me and you know me.

2  You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.

3  You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my

ways.

4  Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O LORD.

5  You hem me in--behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me.

6  Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.

7  Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?

8  If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the

depths, you are there.

9  If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the

sea,

10  even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.

11  If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night

around me,"

12  even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like

the day, for darkness is as light to you.

140:2  who devise evil plans in their hearts and stir up war every day.

PRO 3:5  Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own

understanding;

4:23  Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.

5:21  For a man's ways are in full view of the LORD, and he examines all

his paths.

6:14  who plots evil with deceit in his heart--he always stirs up

dissension.

18  a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into

evil,

7:10  Then out came a woman to meet him, dressed like a prostitute and with

crafty intent.

8:10  Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice

gold,

10:8  The wise in heart accept commands, but a chattering fool comes to

ruin.

11:20  The LORD detests men of perverse heart but he delights in those

whose ways are blameless.
